Udon-Making Class in Nara: A Special Experience for Visitors from the UK
At Udon Shokunin Wa Seimenjo in Nara, we welcome guests from all over the world who want to learn the art of making authentic Japanese udon.
This time, we had a wonderful couple visiting from the United Kingdom. In the UK, it’s hard to find udon with the chewy texture that Japanese people love—most of the noodles available there are very soft.
They joined our Handmade Udon Cooking Class because they wanted to experience real Japanese udon and learn how to make it at home after returning to the UK.
During the class, participants use 100% Japanese wheat flour and go through each traditional step: kneading, stepping, rolling, and cutting the dough. Although udon making looks simple, it is a deeply traditional craft, and the chef carefully guides guests through each process.
The couple worked together with great teamwork and created beautiful noodles—hard to believe it was their first time!
Once the noodles were finished, we served them with our signature dashi broth, allowing them to enjoy the full flavor of their handmade udon right inside the restaurant. They told us, “We will definitely make this again in the UK!”, which made us very happy.
